This program shares some tips and tricks for overcoming common and uncommon census research obstacles. Cari will cover topics such as language barriers, literacy, indexing errors, imaging errors, errors (accidental), and errors (intentional). Using examples, she will demonstrate each of these issues and suggest solutions for overcoming them.

Some really helpful hints for using census records in other countries, unfortunately here in New Zealand we don't have access to individual historic census records only statistical data. Most pre 1966 forms have be destroyed by the department and those that have been kept are closed to the public till 2066. \n\nSome very good search tips. I was excited to learn some more tips and tricks so I can help my students. I also have some more ideas for searching a census where my own ancestors seem to be missing. I will catch the rest later on replay.\n\nIn the 1920 Census my father and his family were listed with my Grandfather's first name as their last names. Like Cari suggested I went line by line in neighvor hood to find them. \n\nLearned some new tips that I am about to try because I too have difficulties finding some ancestors in the censuses. \n\nlots of great suggestions for apparent roadblocks!\n\nLots of useful information to broaden my research\n\nLoved the idea of recording those pre-1840 people on a spreadsheet~\n\nNot only was our speaker knowledgeable and articulate, Cari clearly enjoys sharing her expertise with other people.
