This session will focus on the thousands of transactions occurring in Edgefield, South Carolina in a County that did not burn, therefore, these records revealed the value placed on a slave in this community. “In the antebellum South, a prime male hand was the overriding measure for determining prices for enslaved workers. Hearty, prime women who were good breeders also had a high market value. Other factors that contributed to the sale price of a slave were gender, age, and skill.”

That was terrific! Sure am glad for the videos. Loved also hearing from some of the people involved- really moving. Now I know for sure I've got to first do another deep dive in VA records, this time with a more focused mindset. Big item I picked up: getting the word out any way I can. And yes, somehow figure out how I can do that trip to Surry/Sussex County. Want to at least put my feet on the same land my ancestors came from.
Expert on the topic, excellent details, great webinar.
Excellent webinar. The steps were explained on how to conduct this part of genealogical research are invaluable. The addition of videos was great.
Excellent!!!
Brilliant webinar with lots of great information to help our research in to finding family relatives.
Great content, but especially liked the use of video!
A unique glimpse into the journey through documents - receipts right in your face; also rewarding to see a video testimonial exchange with a Descendant of an enslaver. Highlight the role of the Family Historian serving as a facilitator to connect and carry the story forward. The documents and resources shared were wonderful.
Fantastic presentation! We gained so much useful information and tips. Thank you.
