Analyzing documents for reliability, context, and information can help solve challenging research problems. Genealogists mine documents for information and clues to other records. They evaluate the details in the records looking for evidence to answer research questions. This session will demonstrate how to analyze documents and provide a list of questions to use in your own analysis.

The will of Rebecca Sly indicates William Dalton was a merchant of the Kingdom of France. The pedigree chart suggests he died in America. Being originally of the channel islands, business in or with France appears a real possibility. Perhaps he was a merchant in the Province of Quebec in North America, running merchandise between there and France in Europe? Quebec was part of France until 1763 I believe. You might try searching for records in Quebec.
