There are definable trends today in the application of technology to genealogy. The buzzword for 2014 is SYNERGY: [Google's definition] the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents [technology] to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects. This is being broadcast live from the Orange County California Genealogical Society's 2nd Annual Genealogy Bash.
