About this webinar

Over the last 8 years, Backblaze has collected, analyzed, and reported on hard drive and SSD failure. Andy Klein has waded through 166 million records to learn all he can about drive failure and he'd like to share that with you. For example, do different drive models fail at different rates, do bigger drives fail more often, does temperature impact drive failure, and maybe most important - can you predict drive failure. We’ll also compare consumer versus enterprise drives and wrap up by comparing hard drives to SSDs. Join us for a class of what you can really learn from failure – drive failure that is.

A long time ago I was told their are two kinds of data storage, "... those that have failed, and those that are yet to fail..." KEEP MULTIPLE BACKUPS, and make sure that you still have the technology to read them. And check that the backup(s) actually work.

Very informative and useful. My only critique would be an oversight in the syllabus - would you please add the URL's mentioned in the presentation ie: Backblaze and the test results, so one doesn't have to re-watch the webinar to find them. Please?

I've used Backblaze for my cloud -based backups for over 5 years now, based on a recommendation from my professional tech friend. Absolutely wonderful. And when I have questions, they answer them so I can understand!! Highly recommended. And I think I've got a hard drive that might need replacing soon... :)

Marathon is fun, and I can't wait to apply what I've learned, most of which is genealogy is slow, frustrating, thorough, sometimes gratifying work!

My husband should have watched this instead of me. I’m not up on the mechanics. But presentation was very good and I was still able to take some notes. Thanks.
