Pre-civil war churches show the relationship between Masters and their slaves. Enslaved people attended Church with their owners and they were recorded beside their owners. Some of the enslaved individuals even got married in their Master’s church. This lecture will show you how to identify the Mother’s church and to locate records that might include your ancestors.

Thank you Tawana
There was some extremely useful information about the kinds of records churches keep/kept which I look forward to trying to emulate. What would have been helpful was some consideration about approaches within non-literate churches, in which nobody, including the pastor, was literate. At least one church my ancestors attended has no written records because nobody at that time could read or write.
Thanks!
Great detective work leading to some brilliant results and introducing new resources which have been over looked by many family historians.
Thank you Brian!
