This presentation takes the viewer through the results of 5 full brothers who have done a DNA test. It covers the comparison of their ethnicity estimates through to the various differences in their DNA matches including the variance in the sharing amounts. It helps people understand why testing siblings can really enhance their genetic genealogy, even more so if they can not test a parent or parents. The talk will also include a look at some advanced sibling topics, such as utilising X DNA results to establish if two females have the same father, through to advanced tools like visual phasing and creating lazarus kits.

The last question - about whether you can reconstruct the DNA of the mother if you have the DNA of four sisters and their father - yes, you can! Donna said that the father's DNA won't help, but it will! The Lazarus tool at Gedmatch can compare the sisters' DNA to their father's. The DNA the sisters don't share with their father has to come from their mother and that is combined into a Lazarus kit for the mother.
Yes Lazarus does allow you to add the other parent, for example I can add the DNA kit of my mother when reconstructing my father - BUT .. the tool doesn't actually use it in it's calculations. It's been an "oddity" of this tool for many years, so I didn't go into that detail.
So very interesting, I learned a few things! Now, I know why it’s important to test the siblings! Thank you so much!
Excellent.
This was so much more interesting than I thought it would be. Now I am anxious to work with my results and the results for two of my sisters to see where we match. It was always said that my youngest and I took after Dad while the other two, our Mum. This should be fun!!
Wow, I learned so much that I need to incorporate into my current project! I will be watching this again, multiple times, to be able to absorb all the information Donna provided. She explained things clearly at every step; some things I already knew, much I need to review and put into practice! Thank you!!
Excellent examples and very relatable to actual practice. Some of the best explanations of complex DNA methods I have seen.
Excellent webinar: well put together, easy to follow, great examples, nice background of the slides, wonderful coverage of the topic!
An excellent presentation demonstrating the importance of testing siblings. Donna explains things in such a clear and straightforward manner, and this webinar has something for the beginner to the advanced!
