About this webinar

Many couples chose to marry in a location away from their home. Often there were reasons why it was a more convenient location to tie the knot. Sometimes, this decision was based on a romantic location or a place that would allow them to marry quickly without a three-day waiting period. These locations are often referred to as Gretna Green, the historic town in Scotland where thousands of English couples ran because of Scotland’s sympathetic marriage laws. We will consider the reason for a different marriage location, alternate sources to determine the location, and a few of the towns known as "Gretna Greens" in the United States.

    Maps and diagrams were great.\n\nAlso really liked sources and information on your Bibliography.\n\nMark always gives good information. Now if I can just actually do it right. lol\n\nMark always has great examples.\n\nMark did a great job tonight! \n\nMark is always an excellent presenter and teacher.\n\nMark is always great - knowledgeable and entertaining\n\nMark Lowe always does great webinars! Just the information I've been looking for regarding questions I had on why ancestors traveled to a different state to get married.\n\nMark Lowe gave us lots of practical advice for how to research our ancestors' marriage records.\n\nMark Lowe has the most pleasant voice - I could listen to him for hours but the subject matter of marriage laws was just fascinating since my family is part of that whole bouncing around KY to get married. Gave me some real insight!\n\nMark Lowe is always interesting and informative. \n\nMark Lowe is an excellent teacher! He has so much knowledge and has the gift of being able to communicate so it really sinks in. I saw him at an all day conference and have watched many of his webinars on Legacy Family Tree Webinars. I have all of his Legacy webinars on my playlist so they are easy to get to.\n\nMark's presentations are always great! Thank you! : )\n\nMore time was needed to copy information from some of the slides. \n\nMr Lowe is so very knowledgeable and a pleasure to listen to.     This is not the first webinar presented by Mr. Lowe that I have attended. He is always entertaining and enlightening! Thank you . . . \n\nA lot of great ideas to explore - priority is to keep and open mind!\n\nA subject I knew nothing about, now elucidated. Thanks.\n\nAlways enjoy hearing Mark.\n\nAlways enjoy J. Good to learn more strategies for finding marriage records!\n\nAnything Mark Lowe talks about is enlightening and helpful to me.\n\nAs Gretna Green was in the title, I expected more about England than the US although the same principles do apply\n\nAwesome presentation! I had heard the term Gretna Greenbefore but had no idea what it referred to.\n\nIt wasn't what I was expecting-- I thought Gretna Green was a woman's name about whom there was going to be a case study-- but I have encountered the phenomenon often of couples marrying away from their home communities while doing research.\n\nI've been trying to figure out Gretna Greens in the US for a while. The strategies discussed and references are VERY helpful.\n\nLearn new ways to find documents missing. Just great information. Thank you.\n\nLearned quite a bit but wished Mark had been able to use some examples from Canada or Scotland/England for those who don't live in the US.\n\nLots of great marriage resources - thanks!\n\nLots of great strategy ideas.
